CHANDIGARH, May 5: Haryana Food and Supplies Minister Ganeshi Lal has directed all wheat procuring agencies in the state to clear mandis on priority basis in view of prevailing heat wave.

In a directive to the government agenies, the Minister said the increase in temperatures, which began nearly three weeks ago, was a matter of concern. Therefore, it was important that the stocks of wheat procured by the government are kept in proper storage facilities by all the procuringing agencies, he added.

Lal said the state expected more than 38 lakh tonne wheat procurement during the current season for Cenrtal pool as the daily wheat arrival was above 70,000 metric tonne in the state mandis. He urged the Food Corporation of India FCI to take maximum local deliveries of wheat from the procuring agencies, arranging despatches of foodgrains by rail and road from Haryana to other states.

The Minister said the government agencies had procured 36.18 lakh tonne of wheat out of total arrival of 36.38 lakh tonne till Tuesday. Out of this, Hafed alone accounted for 13.15 lakh tonne, followed by the Food and Supplies Department with 8.01 lakh tonne, Food Corporation of India FCI with 5.89 lakh tonne, Haryana Agro Industries Corporation with 2.68 lakh tonne, Haryana Warehousing Corporation with 3.73 lakh tonne and Confed with 2.07 lakh tonne.
