Lohri 2026 Date: Lohri is a folk and harvest festival that marks the conclusion of the winter solstice.
Lohri 2026 Date, Time, Shubh Muhurat and History: Lohri, a significant Sikh and Hindu harvest festival primarily celebrated in the country’s northern regions of Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi, marks the beginning of the harvest season in India and the ending of the winter solstice, i.e., when days become longer and nights grow shorter.
Also known as Lohadi or Lal Loi, the festival is celebrated by the lighting of a holy bonfire, which is considered a symbol of fertility, auspiciousness, and good fortune, especially for newly wedded brides and newborn children.
Lohri is celebrated the night before the Makar Sankranti festival every year, following the ancient Bikrami calendar, which blends the lunar and solar cycles.
This year, Lohri will be celebrated on January 13, 2026, a Tuesday, with the Lohri Sankranti timings falling at 03:13 PM on January 14, 2026, according to Drik Panchang.

The festival celebrates the successful harvest of winter crops like sugarcane, wheat, and mustard.
It is marked by the lighting of a holy bonfire and the presentation of grains and sweets as a token of gratitude towards Surya Devta and Agni for agricultural prosperity.
Sweet goods such as peanuts, popcorn, and sugarcane slices are offered to the bonfire, representing prosperity and the bounty of the land.
The festival is celebrated by singing folk songs, performing dances such as Bhangra and Gidda, telling Dulla Bhatti tales of courage, and eating traditional dishes such as sarson saag, maize flour chapatis, and sweets such as gajjak and rewri.
