Song of the fortnight:
Yes!!! Finally, after a long time, a song that makes me feel good! The Animal Song by Aussie band Savage Garden has a verve about it that is really infectious. Great video, nice rhythm and with the lead singer smiling sunnily throughout sometimes quite zanily too!, it8217;s the sheer ebullience and joie de vivre that makes me wanna forget about life8217;s sometimes thorny ways.
The much-too-much of the fortnight:
Aw shucks, guys! It was just an evening ensemble, even if it was worn by the classy Dame Judi Dench. That too on the Oscar night. I mean, the way everyone went on and on about Indian designers finally finding their place in the Sun, you8217;d think the Academy had selected them to dress every celebrity in the auditorium that night! Yes, Dench was sporting a cream and gold coat designed and hand-embroidered by apunka Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla HURRAH!, but there8217;s no need to get all over-excited and shrill about it, is it?
The in-form man of the fortnight:
He8217;s back! Yes, Brian Lara8217;s on a roll. And it seems like good times are slowly inching their way back into the once-beleaguered West Indian cricket camp. After back-to-back centuries, one of which helped the Indies grab a 2-1 lead against the doughty Australians, Lara is the one man the Oz attack is gunning for.
The ping-pong of the fortnight:
Ah, the political temperature seems to have warmed up considerably. It all started at a certain tea party. Jayalalitha became chummy with the opposition, talked cryptically about a political earthquake,8217; which drove the Parliamentary Affairs Minister P. Kumaramangalam into saying words which got the lady all riled, who then rocked the Union boat by withdrawing her ministers from the government. We await the next shot in this match.
The double trouble of the fortnight:
All8217;s not well in the Paes-Bhupathi camp. Or so say the press. Differences have supposedly cropped up between Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi, the doubles pair that is ranked three in the world. The two also happen to be good friends. Well, there8217;s no relationship without its ups and downs, right? So could we let the boys just be so that they can get on with their game.
