It8217;s always fashion week somewhere in the world, The New York Times

If you didn8217;t know that the New York Fashion Week has just got over, or that London Fashion Week ended a fortnight ago, worry not, there8217;s still hope for you. There8217;s a fashion week on in Paris even as you read this. Eric Wilson estimates that there are about 152 fashion weeks annually across the world, including places as far-flung as Antwerp, Fiji, Liberia, Cuba and the Bahamas. An international fashion week is a great commercial for the global consumer, but imagine multiple fashion weeks at the same venue in different seasons? Well, New York has had five this year, one each in January, March, June, July and September. And no, it does not stop there. They also had a Fur Fashion Week in May and a Pet Fashion Week in August!

Back to Basics, the Prada way, The Guardian

WITH the American economy on the backfoot, can recession be far behind? At the Milan Fashion Week which ends today, it8217;s back to basics for the high priests of fashion as Jess-Cartner-Morley discovers at the Prada show. Miuccia Prada8217;s primitive essentials include 8220;bras, panties, python, gold,8221; while Burberry roots for crumpled silk and careworn linen. It might not fit into your idea of either high fashion or bare necessities, but Cartner-Morley senses some truth in it: 8220;The question Milan fashion week wanted you to answer was: if Rome was burning, what would you still shop for?8221; What would you, really?

Sarah Palin, the girl next door, Washington Post

One person who seems to be doing fine even after bucking the trends thrown up by these fashion weeks is Sarah Palin, America8217;s Republican Veep candidate. Her boardroom black skirts and jackets may not inspire the same awe as Michelle Obama8217;s pretty dresses and pearls or Cindy McCain8217;s heiress glam, but Palin packs a punch as the girl-next-door. The secret, says Robin Givhan, is that Palin would rather come across as pretty than powerful, as 8220;being authoritative but not threatening, feminine but not sexy, serious but not dour.8221; Will it work?

Fashion8217;s Pulse, Women8217;s Wear Daily

It might not be the season for extravagant sartorial splendour, but what is considered the Bible of Fashion in the trade circuit, has its thumbs up for the baroque splendour of Dolce and Gabbana8217;s spring summer 2009 collection. There8217;s also an exhaustive analysis of key trends and looks to keep you in the loop and ahead this season.
