MUMBAI, January 8: A major power failure on the Western Railway early on Friday threw peak hour services out of gear, severely inconveniencing office goers. The trouble began at 6.40 am with a malfunction on the overhead equipment and a power shutdown on the slow track between Bandra and Vile Parle stations. Normalcy was restored only at about 9.50 am by which time trains had to be diverted on the fast corridor from Mahim in the down direction while Churchgate-bound trains were diverted from Andheri on the fast track.
