
Following a recent order of the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court, the government is set to launch a special website on farmers8217; suicide early next week, sources said.
The court had ordered the state government on July 11 to put all information regarding farmers8217; suicide and the packages being implemented for the benefit of farmers on the Internet. The order had come on a public interest litigation filed by activist Kishore Tiwari. The court had rapped the government for not filing affidavit it had asked for in its June 14 order. The basic question asked by the court was why farmers continue to commit suicide despite the packages announced by the State and the Centre.
Pursuant to the HC order, the government engaged National Informatics Centre to design a special website, which is now in the final stages of completion. 8216;8216;It will have all details right from list of farmers committing suicides to the stages of implementation of various schemes, funds allocated and spent, number and names of beneficiaries,8217;8217; an official said.
