The new 3-D televisions are barely out of the box,and the one-upmanship among manufacturers has begun. Sharp, which has been losing market share to Sony,Samsung and others,is adding yellow. Until recently, the standard spectrum for colour television has been red, green and blue, which among TV manufacturers became known as RGB. All of the millions of colours we watch on TV have been recreated by using various amounts and various mixes of red, green and blue. Adding a fourth colour alters the colour equations for digital flat-panel televisions. Sharp says the tweak creates brighter, more vivid colours, which it attributes to higher light transmission through the panel and a wider gamut of colours.
