Yash Birla to start English training solutions

The Yash Birla Group,which owns language learning labs Birla Shloka Edutech Ltd,on Wednesday signed an agreement to partner Malaysian business conglomerate Melewar Group to start English training solutions or ETL product 'Direct English' in India.

The product,which will be sold to adult English language learners between 20 and 45 years,has been developed by UK-based language traning solutions provider Linguaphone Group. The joint venture company plans to roll out 500 centres in 15 states in the next 3-5 years.

8220;Birla Edutech and Melewar will jointly act as the licensee for Direct English in corporate and retail markets in India and Malaysia,8221; said Derek Price,chief executive officer of the Linguaphone Group at the launch of the product in Mumbai on Wednesday.

Birla Edutech,which supplies language learning labs to 650 schools in India,will build learning centres through franchises. 8220;Centres will be rolled out state by state,starting with Rajasthan and Maharashtra,8221; said N Srikrishna,managing director of Birla Shloka Edutech. 8220;Each centre can cost upto Rs 5-7 lakhs.8221;

India8217;s private sector education and training market,pegged at 40 billion,is growing at a CAGR of 16. 8220;One-third of the vocational training market is English language,8221; says Srikrishna. He adds,8221;2 of urban India and 0.5 of rural India is being tutored in English by close to 2.1 million teachers,and Direct English has a huge potential market.8221;
