London: Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair sparked a fire alert when he tried to cook breakfast at his country home,sending four fire engines racing to the scene,his spokesman said. Blair and his wife Cherie were toasting bread on Saturday at their 17th-century property in southeast England,when the smoke alarm went off. “It was just smoke without a fire but by the time Mrs Blair rang the fire service to tell them they didn’t need to come,they were already on their way,” said Blair’s spokesperson. “It was basically some burnt toast that had set the alarm off,” said a spokesman for the fire service.

Sniffer dog saves British soldiers from Taliban trap

London: Meet Chocolat,the heroic Army sniffer dog who saved the lives of a number of British soldiers from a booby trap in Afghanistan after finding a Taliban bomb factory. The Belgian shepherd dog discovered enough home-made bomb-making equipment to make 10 improvised explosive devices during a search in the Nad-e-Ali region of Afghanistan; he then found a safe route out,thus protecting troops from the trap,said his handler. Private Steve Purdy of 101 Military Working Dogs Unit said his dog’s behaviour made him realise that bombs were hidden in the shop.
