BJPs Prime Ministerial candidate L K Advani on Saturday vowed to create more employment opportunities if the NDA is voted to power in the next elections. In a meeting with economists and intellectuals here on Saturday,a whole lot of issues, including the economic meltdown and leakages in the delivery mechanism, came up for discussion.
Sources said that Centre for Policy Research president Pratap Bhanu Mehta spoke about good governance being intrinsically related to political reforms, and thus,intra-party democracy. Economist Bibek Debroy is learnt to have highlighted the slump in exports and how the meltdown could hit the country hard in the months to come, apart from how the overall national fiscal deficit had reached 13 of the GDP.
BJP vice president Yashwant Sinha said at a press conference later that the greatest worry was the job losses, which were 50 lakh by conservative estimates and some economists felt it could be one crore.
Taking a dig at the UPA Government,Sinha said not having a full-time finance minister in these bad times showed bankruptcy of talent.
