CPM veteran V S Achuthanandan was Friday rapped once again by the party’s central leadership after he raked up the SNC Lavalin corruption case which he has been using to target his bete noire and Kerala state unit chief Pinarayi Vijayan.

The 90-year-old leader of the opposition revived the Lavalin controversy in multiple television interviews. In one interview,he asserted there was corruption in the Lavalin case while in another he targeted the state leadership saying the party could have won the last Assembly elections but for some lapses on the part of the leadership, triggering fresh turmoil in the state CPM. The CPM politburo said the issues raised by VS has already been settled by the party and hence his remarks were unwarranted. The CPM central leadership has already taken a view that the Lavalin case was a politically motivated case.

“These charges are baseless and unwarranted. He should desist from making such uncalled for remarks in public,” the CPM politburo said in a statement without mentioning the Lavalin case.
