The new visa rules that provide for a two-month cooling-off for US and UK nationals holding long-term tourist visas has had the powerful diplomatic lobby of these two countries fuming. Even as the two countries stepped up diplomatic pressure,the British High Commissioner is learnt to have sent a terse message to South Block,saying a close relative of his was not being able to join him for Christmas because of this rule. He had asked him to approach the Indian High Commission in London and hoped the needful would be done. While the outcome is not known,the fact remains that United Kingdom has forcefully taken up the entire visa matter with the government.
