Actor-Politician Vijayakant-led DMDK Friday joined the AIADMK to battle the DMK in the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly polls,a partnership that is expected to raise a huge challenge for the ruling alliance.
Captain Vijayakant arrived at the Poes Garden residence of AIADMK chief and Opposition leader J Jayalalithaa a little past 9 pm to finalise the deal, negotiations for which had been going on for the past few days. He was accompanied by party presidium chairman Panruti S Ramachandran, and party youth wing secretary and his brother-in-law L K Sudheesh.
When they emerged 20 minutes later, the trio avoided the media, but a succinct release from the AIADMK headquarters confirmed the deal DMDK will contest from 41 seats.
This was the first meeting in the recent times between Jayalalithaa and Vijayakant, claimants to the same legacy of former chief minister MGR,who have exchanged words in the past over a range of issues even while taking on the DMK-led government and its leaders.
After staunchly resisting the logic and temptations to be part of one of the two main fronts in Tamil Nadu politics since its launch in 2005,Vijayakant finally made up his mind to join the Opposition alliance to take on the DMK-led front that has Congress,PMK,VCK and few others.
