Vidarbha gets special package

Maharashtra CM Prithviraj Chavan Thursday announced a relief package of Rs 1,934 crore for Vidarbha,where rain has wreaked havoc.

Not satisfied,the opposition walked out of the assembly.

After two years of drought in one part of the state,another is seeing a downpour this year, Chavan said,adding that of the 237 rain-related deaths in the state,107 were in Vidarbha.

The rain destroyed 3,800 houses and damaged 36,000. The package includes Rs 840 crore for schemes to counter natural calamities,Rs 375 crore direct help to the affected people,Rs 720 crore to rebuild roads and bridges,and Rs 50 lakh each to district collectors as emergency relief fund.
