An RTI report has revealed that the uterus of 226 women were removed in three hospitals of Rajasthan,after which the administration has temporarily suspended their recognition and ordered a three-member inquiry committee to probe the incident.
Dausa Chief Medical Officer O P Meena,who is leading the probe,said,We have seized the records of the hospitals and process to record statements of women and doctors is going on.
The NGO,which filed the RTI application,alleged that operations were unnecessary and designed for monetary benefits. It said hospitals in Bandikui in Dausa earned Rs 14,000 for every case and removed uteruses of 226 of the 385 patients who had visited there between March and September last year.
Durga Prasad,general secretary of the NGO,Akhil Bhartiya Grahak Panchayat,said the surgery was done even when it was not necessary.
