UPCC gets RTI reply: 28,229 pages

After it could not decide who would verify the information and what would be the best possible way to do it in the least possible time,the UP Congress on Thursday sent all seven bundles of information sheets to Rahul Gandhis office with a messenger. We have recommended that the task may be given to Youth Congress volunteers who were recently elected at the gram panchayat level. They have the training for such type of work. The PCC also has its committees at the grassroot level,but they are taking care of other activities of the party, said state Congress president Rita Bahuguna Joshi.

A Youth Congress office-bearer said they would do the job if Rahulji asks us. The Youth Congress had filed about 1,200 RTI applications in 26 districts of central UP on May 7,seeking information about the NRHM expenditure and Janani Suraksha Yojana beneficiaries in the district,block and community health centre level.

Sources said one of the options being considered,should Rahul Gandhis office insist that UPCC carry out the verification,was to hold public hearings.

But a leader said even holding hearings in 110 wards in the city and 500 gram panchayats in the rural areas would not be easy.
