UNCERTAIN ROUTE
AFTER a long refit in Russia, the Vikramaditya will set sail for home later this month. However, the families of sailors who have spent long months away from home still do not know when they will arrive in Karwar. The main factor being the route the ship would take. Besides security considerations,a lot of permissions and international certifications need to be presented to the Suez Canal authority to allow a ship to pass through. However, the Indian ship has still not obtained permission to use the canal. If it does not come through, the ship will need to sail around Africa, adding a few more weeks to the travel time.
SHARPENING KNIVES
HAVING targeted the SP government in UP over communal riots in Muzaffarnagar, the Congress is now planning to hit the streets alleging that the Akhilesh Yadav government is denying the poor food by not implementing the food security Act. The party has,in the mean time, asked the Law Ministry to expedite the proposal to set up a Bench of the Allahabad HC in Meerut,a longstanding demand of the people of Western UP. It came up for discussions at a meeting between Rahul Gandhi and some UP Congress leaders this week. With internal reports suggesting that its tally of 22 could come down to a single digit in 2014 elections, the party is obviously bracing up for the next electoral battle.
TUG-OF-WAR
A TUSSLE is on between the CRPF and Bihar Police over the detention of a CRPF officer who was allegedly passing on information to Naxals in Bihar. The CRPF has refused to hand him over to the Bihar Police despite the latter registering a case against him. Bihar DGP Abhyanand had called up DG,CRPF,Dilip Trivedi to inform him about his officers role in helping the Naxals in the state. It is learnt that the conversation between the two was not very pleasant and this has got reflected in the CRPF refusing to hand over the officer to the police. For the second day,the officer has been put under house arrest by the CRPF. Earlier, the Bihar Police had been pulled up by the Home Ministry for not taking action against Maoists in the state and for going slow in anti-Naxal operations.
