Udupi gangrape: Cops looking for auto used for abduction

As part of its efforts to nab three unidentified men who gangraped a medical student of the Manipal University

As part of its efforts to nab three unidentified men who gangraped a medical student of the Manipal University in Udupi district on June 20 night,the police are trying to identify an autorickshaw used to abduct the victim.

The police have not arrested anyone. But they already verified the details of about 3,000 of the nearly 10,000 autorickshaws in the district.

They are also looking at call details of people in vicinity of the crime.

“A meeting of the auto drivers’ unions has been called to seek their co-operation,’’ said Udupi SP Dr Boralingaiah.

On Sunday,Karnataka Home Minister K J George met the victim and her family at the Kasturba Medical College Hospital. “I met the victim and her mother and assured them the complete moral support of the administration and people,’’ George said.

George also asked the media and the public to refrain from blaming the victim in the case. “The girl is innocent. No one should hold her responsible. Some anti-social elements have attacked her and they should be targeted,’’ he said.
