It’s been a phenomenal year for Aryan Khan. After making his directorial debut with the Netflix series The Ba***ds of Bollywood and earning praise from audiences and industry insiders alike,Aryan won his first-ever award as a director on Friday evening in Delhi. He took the moment to dedicate it to his mother, Gauri Khan, and also spoke about his father Shah Rukh Khan, and said that just like him, he also enjoys getting awards.
In a classic witty style, reminiscent of SRK, he told NDTV, “This award is not for my father. This award is for my mom. Because my mom always told me to sleep early, not to make fun of people, and absolutely no cursing.” He then added that his mother would be “the happiest woman in the world,” as his grandmother watched him proudly from the audience. He concluded by saying, “When I go home today, I’ll probably get a little less scolding.” For those unaware, Aryan was taking a playful jab at his own series, which received some criticism for its crude language and irreverent tonality towards Bollywood.
Gauri Khan also expressed her excitement on Aryan’s maiden award win, by posting on X. Sharing her pride, she said the moment made her feel very proud, adding that she would now design a new cabinet to store his future accolades. Her tweet read, “Thank you for making me the happiest and proudest, Aryan… ♥️ Now off to design a new cabinet to hold all your awards!!”

Meanwhile, in his speech, Aryan also mentioned his father and said, “Congratulations to all the winners tonight. This is my first award, and I hope I get many more because, like my dad, I really love awards.” Aryan’s award acceptance speech quickly went viral on social media, with viewers praising him for showcasing the same self-deprecating humor as SRK.

Speaking about the criticism his show has received recently, Viveck Vaswani, who helped Shah Rukh Khan navigate his early struggling days, shared his honest disappointment with its depiction of the film industry. He told Radio Nasha Official, “What I felt was that when Shah Rukh came into the industry, the amount of love and respect that Aziz Mirza and Nirmala gave him, and that my mother and I gave him, and Saeed Mirza gave him… all of them gave him so much love, so much affection. So when did he come to the conclusion that Bollywood is a gutter and everyone in it is bad people? He is the one person who was treated with kid gloves as a rank outsider.” He also added that SRK was welcomed with open arms by the industry, yet the show mocked it relentlessly:
“Everyone treated him so well, so warmly, without a single rift. So, for me, and maybe I am the only one in this whole country who may have felt this, but I am also the only one in the country whose house he lived in for two years. So it’s fair to ask: Why did you think we were a bad industry? Why did you personally think that everyone was bad? I can understand you showing whatever you showed. But why was there not one redeeming character in the show? Someone who says: Yes, maybe everything is bad, but there are also some good, decent human beings here. And he is living proof of that.”
