TN response sought over quota

The Supreme Court on Monday sought a response from Tamil Nadu government on a petition challenging its law providing 69 per cent reservation in government jobs and educational institutions. The court issued a notice to the state government on the petition which contended that the legislation providing reservation above 50 per cent was unconstitutional. The petition by some students has contended that reservation exceeding 50 per cent in educational institutions and government jobs was in contravention to the mandate of apex court judgment.
