With a proposal to slap a Rs 250 fine per day on those officials who fail to deliver services and goods in time to citizens, the government is now ready with the long pending legislation that aims to address public grievances in a timebound manner.
The Union cabinet on Thursday will take up The right of citizens for timebound delivery of goods and services and redressal of their grievances Bill,2011 that is likely to be brought before the ongoing budget session of Parliament. The Bill is part of the bouquet of legislative measures including the Lokpal Bill which the government proposes to bring to address the issue of corruption.
The Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha two years back following which it was sent to the concerned parliamentary standing committee. After the committees recommendations, the government has made some changes including the Rs 250 fine per day. The fine, however, will be to a maximum of Rs 50,000 that will be recovered from the officer against whom the penalty has been imposed.
