Yadav vs Hooda,new round Infighting within the Congress went on display again this week when Power Minister Capt Ajay Singh Yadav accused Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda of bias against southern Haryana. Another Congress stalwart,Rao Inderjit Singh,MP from Gurgaon,too accused Hooda of discrimination. Addressing a public rally in Rewari,his home district,Yadav accused Hooda of ignoring a demand to upgrade Maharshi Dayanand Universitys Indira Gandhi Postgraduate Regional Centre at Meerpur,Rewari,into a full-fledged university. This appears to have brought an end to the truce between Yadav and Hooda. Last month,Yadav had cut short a Shimla trip when police and Rewari villagers clashed over land acquisition. Yadav had then claimed that he had met Hooda who then decided not to proceed with land acquisition for the time being. Maruti limps but proceeds Maruti Suzuki has finally resumed operations in its facility in Manesar. It had been shut for around a month a senior officer was brutally killed by agitating workers. A heavy police presence has marked the plant since production resumed. In fact,they number more than the workers and the calm has been uneasy. As far as production is concerned,the company has touched 150 cars a day against a pre-violence peak of 1,900 a day. Osamu Suzuki,Suzuki chairman,is in the country for the annual general meeting next week. He is expected to meet the Haryana chief minister and also visit the plant in Manesar. Osamu is likely to meet Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi too,with a plant planed there. Another embarrassment The arrest of Gopal Goyal Kanda,till recently minister of state for home,has proved yet another embarrassment to a government already struggling against controversy. Kanda has been accused of abetment to the suicide of Geetika Sharma,a former employee of his MDLR Group. Before this,the government has been under attack from the opposition over the power crisis,deteriorating law and order,and sexual exploitation of inmates in shelter homes,with fingers being pointed at a number of ministers or legislators. Sports and politics Chief Minister Hooda has rewarded London Olympic medal winners with even the remotest of Haryana connections. He presented Delhis Sushil Kumar Rs. 1.5 crore and a plot; Andhra Pradeshs players Saini Nehwal and Gagan Narang Rs 1 crore each; and Haryana's own Yogeshwar Dutta Rs 1 crore. Sushil has got a cash prize from the Delhi government too,and the Andhra government has rewarded Narang and Saina. The way Yogeshwar has been treated has intrigued the opposition,which feels he should have been give more. Abhay Chautala said it was a goof-up by the overenthusiastic government. He demanded more for Yogeshwar,including a promotion in the Haryana police.
