Seven debuts mark the opening of LFW and bring the promised freshness of Gen Next to the ramp In keeping with its tradition of promoting young talent,Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) kicked off its Winter/Festive 2012 edition with a Gen Next show that saw a total of seven labels mark their debut. The show started with a collection called The Comical Fellow by Delhi-based duo Astha Sethi and Sidharth Arora. Yellow and blue dominated the line that was liberally peppered with yokes,knife pleats and acrylic accessories including an acrylic cape and shoulder piece. The fabrics used ranged from silks and tulle to satin and georgettes,making it a rather impressive line. Then came the collection Clandestine by the label Threesome with designers Ankit Sharma,Kanika Seth and Mehak Pruthi at the helm. Inspired by James Camerons movie Avatar,this line had silhouettes such as maxi dresses,dresses with capes,shoulder blades and jumpsuits with hoods. The fabrics used were handwoven net from Benaras,crepe,modal and even viscose lycra,as the colour palette included black,brown,green,red and orange. Another designer who managed to wow the crowd was Sneha Arora,who showed a range of dresses and skirts paired with belted blazers. A quirky mix of accessories such as bow ties with a watch dial strapped in and geeky glasses completed the look. Asa Kazingmei revisited his north-eastern roots as he paid an ode to the spirit of Thangkul,a Naga tribe. Inspired by Raivat and Chongkhom,two popular styles of shawls made by Thangkul tribe,his line had a contemporary touch with well-constructed and structured silhouettes that used materials like cotton,chiffon,leather and organza. Hand-woven fabrics from Nagaland with motifs depicting bravery of the soldier,prosperity and royalty (as worn by the chief of the clan/head of the family) were incorporated into the line.
