Sayantani Ghosh of Ghar Ek Sapna fame, who has been making sporadic appearances in different shows, will soon be seen playing the lead in Imagines new serial,Rakta Sambandh
After Ghar Ek Sapna and Naagin you have been missing in action. Any particular reason?
For almost two years I was busy doing the two serials you mentioned and couldnt get any time for myself. So,I decided to take a short break. I had been travelling for four months after which I did a Bengali film Sangharsho with Prasenjit. Incidentally, all my films have been with him. He is the superstar of Bengali cinema. When I returned to Mumbai,I was looking for some interesting roles. In the meantime,I did an episode of Crime Patrol and a dance performance in Uttaran as well as Sabki Laadli Bebo.
What prompted you to make these episodic appearances?
As far as Uttaran is concerned I know the producer Rupali Guha very well. Besides, its a popular serial aired on a leading channel. So I was more than happy to do it. The episode of Sabki Laadli Bebo was important as certain revelations were being madein it,which is why I decided to be a part of it. For Crime Patrol, they needed a known face for an episode in which the girl is trapped in a MMS video scandal and brings the culprit to book.
So what was it about Rakta Sambandh that appealed to you?
As the name suggests,Rakta Sambandh is a story of five sisters, their lives and turmoils. It is realistic and contemporary. Though its a daily drama there is nothing OTT over the top. I play the second sister and am the only one shown to be an urban girl from Mumbai. I took up the role because I completely relate to the character. I play a family-oriented girl who is independent and stands up for her rights. In fact,I was offered both the second and third sisters roles but I chose to take up the second sisters role because she is like me. Also,I will be wearing jeans and kurtas in the serial, which is what I sport in real life too. In my earlier serial Ghar Ek Sapna,I played a rustic character, so I was wearing traditional outfits. In Naagin, since I played a fictitious character, I had to wear elaborate costumes.
Talking about Ghar Ek Sapna, why did you quit the serial which catapulted you to fame? Looking back,do you think you did the right thing?
I would have loved to be a part of it till it ended but there were certain issues that couldnt be resolved, which is why I quit. As to whether it was right or wrong,I dont like to look back. It happened and I have moved forward.
Wasnt it because of Naagin that you quit Ghar Ek Sapna?
No. In fact,I did both the shows simultaneously for one-and-a-half years. As I said, there were certain unresolved issues. It was great working in both the shows, which are my claim to fame. Ghar Ek Sapna was my big break after Kumkum,in which I had done a small role. Ghar.. had a realistic approach sans any loud drama. My role in Naagin had a lot of shades to it. It was a dream role for any actress with a lot of fight sequences and dances thrown in. The only other actress remembered as a naagin is Sridevi.
Are you doing any other show?
Talks are on,but it is too early to divulge any details.
