Youth dies after being thrown off train in Bihar

PATNA: A youth was allegedly thrown off the Patliputra Express on Friday by a Travelling Ticket Examiner and an RPF escort party near Fatuha station after he failed to produce a valid ticket,GRP sources said. Rakesh Kumar,a native of Nalanda district,died on the spot,they added.

Four militants shot dead in Assam

HAFLONG: Four Dimasa tribal militants were killed in an encounter with security forces at Mailoo village in Assams Dima Hasao district on Saturday. The militants belonging to the Dimasa National Revolutionary Front were killed in a joint operation by the army and the police,officials said. Three AK-47 rifles with ammunition were recovered from them.

NCP leader abducted,killed

NAGPUR: A local NCP leader Ganesh Maroti Matey was allegedly kidnapped from Kanhan near Nagpur and murdered by goons on Friday,following which his body was thrown on the railway tracks on the Nagpur-Gondia route,the police said. Matey,District President of NCP Sevadal was allegedly abducted by one Micky Baskhi,who runs a security agency,over a fallout in a property deal and strangulated to death. No arrest has been made so far.

Mutilated currency found in garbage

TIRUCHIRAPPALLI: Two large polythene bags containing

mutilated currency notes of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 were found dumped in a garbage bin here on Saturday. The bags were found by the conservancy staff when they came to empty the bin at Uraiyur locality,corporation officials said.

Probe into assault on American

BHUBANESWAR: The state government on Saturday ordered an investigation into the alleged assault on an American national by private security personnel on Lord Jagannaths chariot on Friday. California-based Noel Magee Hayden 32,who is married to an Oriya,was reportedly manhandled by private security guards of Jagannath Temple when he tried to climb atop the chariot. Hayden who claimed to be a converted Hindu,told the police that he was assaulted by the security guards. As the Sri Jagannath temple is off limits to non-Hindus,foreign pilgrims,mostly converted-Hindus like me,the Rath Yatra period is an opportunity for us to touch the Lord,8221; California-based Hayden said.

FIR against BJP MLA in Bihar

MUZAFFARPUR: An FIR was filed on Saturday against BJP MLA Suresh Sharma and his two supporters by a journalist alleging criminal intimidation and assault during a press meet.

A leading English daily journalist Ajay Kumar Pandey lodged the FIR against Sharma and his two supporters with the Qazi Mohammedpur police station,police said.

An investigation was underway in the matter,Qureshi said adding that a counter case has been also filed against the journalist by the supporters of Sharma.

The incident took place during the press conference of the state unit BJP chief C P Thakur recently.
