BANGALORE: The Lokayukta Special Court granted exemption to former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa from personal appearance for Saturday but made it clear he would have to appear before it on August 29,complying with summons to him on a private complaint over alleged land denotification.

ALIBAUG: Former Leader of Opposition of Maharashtra Assembly and senior leader of Peasants and Workers Party,Datta Patil,passed away here on Saturday after a brief illness. He was 86. Patil,who represented the Alibaug constituency for 27 years,is survived by two sons.

2 held with fake notes in Mumbai

MUMBAI: Two persons were arrested at Mumbai airport for allegedly bringing fake Indian currency with face value of Rs 4.5 lakh from Bangkok. Airport officials intercepted and apprehended Sohilsha Mehbusha Diwan and Zamir Khan Pathan,who had arrived from Bangkok by a Jet Airways flight at the international airport here on Friday,officials said. Both were produced before Esplanade Metropolitan Court,which remanded them in judicial custody till September 9.
