A multimodal package from Delhi to Srinagar will bring Kashmir on the national railway network. Srinagar is part of the existing Qazigund-Baramulla rail section,but that is a standalone network. Trains from Delhi run only till Udhampur.
From June,an AC train will run six days a week from Delhi to Katra,where a station is set to be commissioned. Passengers can then board a feeder bus a passage from Katra is among the budget proposals to a rail tunnel Banihal to Qazigund from where they can travel till Baramulla. A common rail-bus ticket will be introduced.
The railways are also looking at issuing yatra parchis for pilgrims at the time of booking rail tickets,an effort being undertaken with Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board.
