Even as the Ranjan Daimary,founder chairman and current leader of the anti-talk faction of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland NDFB,has been hinting at agreeing to peace talks,ten cadres of his group have surrendered and laid down several sophisticated arms and ammunition.
The surrender took place at the Armys Four Corps headquarter at Tezpur in the presence of Lt Gen Shakti Gurung on Saturday. The arms they surrendered included one one 7.62 mm AK-56 rifle,five 7.65 mm pistols,two .22 rifles,one carbine machine gun along with huge quantity of ammunition.
An Army spokesman said the group was responsible for several incidents in Darrang,Udalguri and Sonitpur districts in northern Assam as also in the areas bordering Bhutan and Arunachal Pradesh. The ten included one woman cadre too.
