The US President had an open mic moment at a re-election fundraiser in Chicago. The reporters had left,but Obama didnt realise that a live audio feed was relaying his remarks to the press briefing room of the White House. While talking to donors,Obama had tough words for the Republican chairman of the House Budget Committee,Rep Paul Ryan of WisconsinThis is the same guy who voted for two wars that were unpaid forand said the leader of Qatar was a big promoter of democracy except in his own country.

The Yemeni President had to face a fresh round of protests for saying that women should not take part in protest rallies. In a speech on Friday,Saleh criticised women for mingling with men during demonstrations,saying it violated Islamic law. On Sunday,hundreds of thousands of young people demonstrated across the country denoucing the president for his comments.

The new spokesperson of the African National Congress sparked off a debate when he said there was an oversupply of coloured people in the Western Cape province. Coloured people,who make up nearly 9 per cent of South Africas population,are concentrated in Cape Town and are generally not ANC supporters. Critics accused Manyi of racism and a coloured Cabinet minister publicly scolded him for the comments. But Manyi refused to apologise for his remarks.

The president-elect of the American College of Surgeons resigned on Sunday over a Valentines Day editorial he wrote in Surgery News that cited research that found that female college students who had unprotected sex were less depressed than those whose partners used condoms. The editorial sparked a furore among many women,who called it offensive.

The British business magnets comment to BBC News that his private isles in the British Virgin Islands would be an absolutely perfect place where lemurs can be protected and breed has met resistance from conservationists. Lemurs,native to Madagascar,are being threatened by deforestation and the offer to relocate was meant to save them. But conservat- ionists say no one has attempted releasing a non-native species into the wild in a different continental region and that the lemurs will damage the two islands ecosystem.
