Taiwan stocks rose 2 per cent on Wednesday as Largan Precision and smartphone plays gained on optimism about growing demand from major clients such as Apple Inc ,drawing foreign money inflows.
Largan,which makes camera lenses used in smartphones for Apple,HTC Corp and Nokia ,rose 3.7 per cent. Handset casing maker Catcher Technology jumped 6.97 per cent,the maximum allowed.
Adding to the gains,Fubon Financial Holding Co Ltd advanced 2.5 per cent,sending the financial sub-index 2.6 per cent higher. Fubon said it would consider bidding for the Taiwan assets of New York Life.

The main TAIEX index ended up 174.73 points at 8,813.28,rebounding from Tuesday8217;s three-month closing low. The glass sub-index led gains as Taiwan Glass rose 6.8 per cent on hopes its earnings would shine this year thanks to a booming China business.
Electronics shares rose 2.23 per cent.
Acer Inc ,the world8217;s No.2 PC vendor,fell 6.8 per cent after cutting its shipment forecast for the second quarter.
The Taiwan dollar gained 0.4 per cent to T28.996 in midday trading.
Foreign investors were net sellers on Tuesday,capping total buying at T26.5 billion so far this month.
Wednesday8217;s figures are due later in the day.
