The Cine and TV Artistes Association has completed 50 years,so this show is basically one big party. There is no story, competition or continuity; it’s basically a night of performances by nearly every known face in the industry that will be telecast over six episodes. Along with performances,we get to hear little bit of trivia about our favourite stars. Apart from being just a celebration, the programme aims to raise money that will be used for the welfare of cine artistes by providing them with medical and housing facilities and insurance.

As Javed Jaffri says in the first episode,“It will take an entire episode to go through the list of people who are involved.” And he’s right,by the end of the sixth episode everyone in the industry who can dance, sing or talk would have been on stage. There’s been Amitabh Bachchan,Shah Rukh Khan,Aamir Khan,Salman Khan,Rani Mukerji and many more stars. Each episode has different hosts —the first episode had Javed Jaffri and Tisca Chopra and the second had Boman Irani and Mona Singh.
Watching the top stars perform is always a pleasure. And when you know that it’s for a cause,it makes it even better. The songs are chosen well and the dances are grand, colourful and full of energy. The star cast is incomparable and this is possibly the only space where so many actors have come together.

However, after watching energy filled performances by Shah Rukh,Salman and Aamir, there were some others that brought down the energy. While comedians Sunil Pal and Navin Prabhakar tried very hard to keep the audience in splits, their performances were boring and a bit too long. The show does have some fun interviews but we wish there would be more interaction between the audience and the actors and maybe even between the stars themselves.

Verdict: Since it’s not a reality show in the conventional sense, you’d think that there’s not much to attract you back to the show every week. But the high glamour quotient and superstars can never fail as a magnet. There is no need to sit attentively in front of the TV for the whole hour, but it’s a great show to watch while you’re busy having dinner or doing household chores. You can keep glancing at the performances and enjoy the music.
