Superman gets new logo on his 75th birthday

Comic icon: DC entertainment will organise several events over the year to celebrate the birthday of their oldest superhero

Superman,who turns 75 this year,might be the ultimate macho male but he too needs a birthday present and his creators have given him just that a new spiffy logo.

The Man of Steel is the man of the hour for a whole year of celebratory projects and initiatives.

DC Entertainment is celebrating the anniversary of their oldest,and arguably most iconic,superhero by beginning a year full of all things for the Man of Steel,starting with a commemorative logo that brings together the familiar red and blue colours as well as the cape waving behind his silhouette.

The mark will adorn many of the various initiatives and projects involving Superman over the next year,starting with DC Comics launch of writer Scott Snyder and artist Jim Lees new Superman Unchained series on June 12.

The first issue of Unchained will have a series of variant covers inspired by each era of the character,from the 1930s to today.

Superman is undeniably the greatest superhero in the world and likely the most influential comic-book character of all time, Diane Nelson,president of DC Entertainment,was quoted by USA Today as saying.

In addition to being an enduring presence in pop culture for the last 75 years,he continues to be a commanding global icon. DC Entertainment and all of Warner Bros look forward to celebrating this important,year-long anniversary for Superman, Nelson said.

One of the biggest aspects of the anniversary is the release of director Zack Snyders Man of Steel movie,out June 14 and starring Henry Cavill as Superman.

Snyder is also producing a new animated short that pays tribute to the many looks and history of Superman over 75 years,fans will be able to see a sneak peek at San Diego Comic-Con in July before its debut in late summer.

Its a great honour for all of us involved in Man of Steel to carry on the tradition of Superman for longtime fans as well as a new generation of moviegoers, Snyder said.

Im so excited to share the movie with them and to be a part of this celebration, he said.

Superman first appeared in Action Comics No 1,dated June 1938,and since then,the hero has fought for truth,justice and the American way in addition to a bunch of villains including Lex Luthor,Bizarro and Brainiac.
