Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren on Thursday won the vote of confidence comfortably with the support of Independents, and got back to the business of running the state.
We had fought to gain this state. Now we have to deliver, said Soren, welcoming the vote of confidence adopted by the Assembly which had become a fait accompli after two Independent MLAs Videsh Singh and Chamra Linda,in addition to the United Goa Democratic Partys lone MLA Bandhu Tirkey, cast their vote in favour.
In his third term as the Chief Minister,Sorens first order of business was to prepare a fresh list of BPL families in the state to ensure they get ration cards and subsidised food rice at Re 1 per kg and iodised salt at 25 paise per kg.
It is nice that we have won the vote of confidence. This will help us do good work for the people of the state, said Soren, whose Jharkhand Mukti Morcha forged ties with the BJP,AJSU and JDU to form a coalition government after no party emerged a clear winner in the Assembly polls last month. Now our coalition government will start doing business, he said.
Soren won the trust vote with 45 in favour and 26 against. The five-MLA strong Opposition RJD staged a walkout at the time of voting. We are against the motion. But we will not have anything to do with the Congress. Its leadership had done nothing to form a secular government in the state, said RJD spokesperson Manohar Yadav.
The RJD-Congress rift came as a bonus to the ruling coalition. We now have the responsibility to provide a stable and able government. We are going to chalk out a common minimum programme and implement it in a time frame, said Deputy Chief Minister Raghuvar Das,who belongs to the BJP.
However, leaders of the Opposition Congress and JVM, who fought the elections together, were apprehensive of the government delivering.
