SC cancels Hasan bail

The SC agreed with the ED that Khan may in all likelihood abscond if granted bail, and this would jeopardise investigation into his operations.

The Supreme Court on Friday set aside a Bombay High Court order granting bail to Pune-based stud farm owner Hasan Ali Khan, accused of money laundering running into several crores.

The SC agreed with the ED that Khan may in all likelihood abscond if granted bail, and this would jeopardise investigation into his operations.

The Bombay HC had on August 12 directed the release of Khan on bail saying there are no ingredients of proceeds of crime in the case made out by the ED against the applicant. SC had later suspended the HC order.

Noting that the HC order needs to be interfered with, the SC gave weight to EDs apprehension that Khan had been caught earlier with three forged passports. It said a man who can arrange for three passports would have no great trouble to abscond if granted bail.
