The 3-D action-thriller Sanctum follows a team of underwater cave divers on an expedition to the largest, most beautiful and least accessible caves on earth.
When a tropical storm forces them deep into the caverns, they must fight raging water, deadly terrain and creeping panic as they search for an unknown escape route to the sea.
Master diver Frank McGuire has explored the South Pacifics Esa-ala Caves for months. But when his exit is cut off in a flash flood,Franks team including 17-year-old son Josh and financier Carl Hurley are forced to alter their plans. With dwindling supplies, the crew must navigate an underwater labyrinth to make it out.
Soon, they are confronted with the question: Can they survive,or will they be trapped forever? More like it,the audience feels trapped in an interminable two-hour watch.
James Cameron and 3-D have become inseparable, especially after Avatar. So,when the maker of some of the greatest money-churners of our times lends his name to a 3-D enterprise, you expect the Cameron touch. Sanctum delivers little bit of that magic in some of the awesome 3-D sequences. However, much of the film is far too verbose, and static. But the few shards of action are what we are grateful for.
Despite its tech wizardry,Sanctum is a poor film.
RATING:
One star for the 3-D treat.
