Rolling Stock
Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi may have, under pressure, revoked the suspension of a Divisional Operations Manager in Danapur penalised for the fiasco of MPs not getting AC-I berths on the Patna Rajdhani Express, but some heads appeared to have quietly rolled. A Chief Commercial Manager of East Central Railway has been transferred to the North Frontier Railway. It now turns out that the official was himself travelling on the same train to Delhi on some personal work.
Lobbying Hard
CBI director A P Singh has been on a lobbying spree to ensure the agency does not get subsumed by the proposed Lokpal. Besides writing to the DoPT,Singh was seen paying a discreet visit to Law Minister Salman Khurshids house and that too not in his official car,to seek support. Indications are that some Opposition leaders, including a prominent BJP leader, were also approached by CBI bosses.
Generally good
India was pleasantly surprised with the friendliness and can do spirit of Lt Gen Ma Xiaotian,Deputy Chief of General Staff,PLA who led the Chinese side during the recent round of defence talks. The only time Lt Gen Ma got agitated was when he talked about the Indian medias coverage of China. The officer was also apparently upset with the remarks of the Northern Army Commander on China and its military build-up,emphasising that neither side should fuel media frenzy.
Follow the leader
It looks like the Congress members from Telangana in the Lok Sabha have suddenly lost their fire. They are no longer parked in the aisles waving placards and shouting slogans. The fact of the matter is that the cause for action is missing. It was the TRS-duo of K Chandrasekhar Rao and Vijayshanthi whose daily protests used to force them to put up a parallel show. Now that both TRS MPs have gone home,Congress MPs have also returned to their seats.
A mighty task
The Naresh Chandra task force on national security is carrying out quite a detailed exercise. So much so that its sub-group on internal security has been asked to visit all major states for discussions. The point being that law and order is a state subject. The exercise is bound to take time and so the panel, which was to wind up its work by next month, may want a small extension till March-April to finish matters.
