Faced with pressure from the DMK over the Sri Lanka issue, the government on Tuesday offered to discuss the matter in Parliament.

Intervening after Zero Hour speeches of the DMK and AIADMK leaders in the Lok Sabha,Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Kamal Nath said,The government has viewed with serious concern the happenings in Sri Lanka8230;The government is open to a discussion on this subject and you Speaker may like to call a BAC meeting to fix a time and date for such a discussion.

Nath made this offer amidst din after DMK member T K S Elangovan said,The US resolution, which was to be passed in the UNHRC,has failed to fulfil the aspirations of the Tamils. He said the government and the President of Sri Lanka had made some promises to India, which included demilitarisation, democratisation and de-escalation. Those assurances had not been honoured by Lanka. Why is India allowing genocide? he asked.
