Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday is learnt to have assured members of the All India IIT Faculty Federation AIIITFF that the autonomy of IITs would not be compromised in any manner. The Prime Minister said that he had himself been a teacher who fully appreciates the autonomy of the IITs,and added that the IITs are an internationally acclaimed brand name that need to be preserved and supported.
Describing the meeting as an excellent interaction,AIIITFF president K Narsimhan told The Indian Express that the PM had assured that he would convey their concerns to the HRD Minister.
Singh is learnt to have emphasised that a dialogue was the best possible way to address the issue.
