While acknowledging that there might have been inadequate exchange of information between Delhi Police and Maharashtra ATS in the probe into July 2011 bomb blasts in Mumbai,Home Minister P Chidambaram on Tuesday said it was quite possible that a person who is being used by one investigating agency as an informer might figure as a suspect in another agencys probe,as has happened in this case.
There had been confusion, and talks of rift between the two police organisations, when the Maharashtra ATS recently named Naqi Ahmed Sheikh as one of the suspects in the case. Naqi was being used as an informer by Delhi Police and Intelligence Bureau, which too had been probing the same case.
It might appear anomalous that someone who is helping one agency turns out be a suspect in the same case. But it is not an entirely impossible situation8230; there could have been better exchange of information between Delhi Police and ATS. May be there was inadequate exchange. But we will have to suspend judgment as of now. I have been told that the two agencies have held a meeting and reconciled their differences, Chidambaram said.
