Visiting British Prime Minister David Cameron on Thursday reportedly said it would be good to meet Narendra Modi and that his government had already had proper engagement with the Gujarat government.
Speaking at an interaction with businessmen here,Cameron said his governments engagement with Gujarat should continue. We have begun a proper engagement with Gujarat already and with the Chief Minister there. Our Foreign Office Minister has met with him. The connection is there,the engagement is there. I think the engagement should continue, PTI quoted him as saying.
When asked if he would like to meet Modi in the near future,Cameron said he was open to meeting elected leaders and that it would be for the people of India whom to elect.
In March this year,Britains Foreign Office Minister Hugo Swire met Modi in Gujarat,saying it was a logical next step in its relations with India. During his ongoing brief visit to the country,Cameron met PM Manmohan Singh at the latters residence and spoke on enhancing bilateral ties on a range of subjects including fighting terrorism.
The British PM left for Kolkata for a scheduled meeting with West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and address students at IIM,Joka,in Kolkata.
Cameron began his day in Delhi with a short stroll in Lodhi Garden. Moment of calm in Lodhi Gardens8230;ahead of a busy day with business leaders and PM Singh, he tweeted in the morning.
