A day before a dinner meet of Third Front partners called by Mayawati, her party general secretary Satish Chandra Mishra clarified on Saturday that the BSP had not sent any ultimatum to the Front for declaring Mayawati as the PM candidate to enlist her support.
Reports in the electronic media suggested that the BSP had sent out an ultimatum to the Third Front to declare Behen Mayawati as the prime ministerial candidate. Similar reports have also appeared in newspapers today. I want to clarify that these reports are false and baseless. Nobody (from the BSP) has sent any such ultimatum, Mishra said in a press note.
Any decision in this regard will be taken after the elections. Nevertheless, crores of workers of the BSP,who are working day and night, wish to see Mayawati as the first Dalit Prime Minister of the country, he added.
The clarification came after senior Left leader A B Bardhan went public saying that Prime Minister will be chosen only after the polls. Incidentally,Bardhan was the first among senior political leaders in the country who came out publicly supporting Mayawatis bid for prime ministership after July 22 trust vote last year.
