Attending a dinner hosted by CM Narendra Modi at his official residence in Gandhinagar Friday evening,the visiting US delegation of mainly Republican lawmakers spoke via Skype to their senior leader and former Speaker of House of Representatives Newton Gingrich,who reportedly said he would take up the issue of a US visa for Modi with Secretary of State John Kerry.
Modi was said to be present in the room when the lawmakers spoke to Gingrich.
According to a press release by the states Information Department,the former Speaker expressed enthusiasm for Modis visit to US,which has denied him visa since 2005.
Shalabh Kumar,president of National Indian American Public Policy Institute that has facilitated the trip by lawmakers and business leaders,told mediapersons,Gingrich talked about taking up the issue of visa with Kerry.
Earlier in the day,the delegation visited Tata Nano and Ford plants in Sanand.
Dismissing as baseless allegations some media reports stating that the trip was sponsored for the delegation,Kumar said,I do not understand it all. How come any one would sponsor businessmens trip.
During the day,the delegation also attended a cultural event at PDP University.
