Missing the youth

While youth remains the buzzword in the Congress with party leaders talking about AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhis popularity among the countrys young blood, the partys draft manifesto does not have any concrete proposals for them. In the over 100-page manifesto, there are just a couple of lines on the youth,as the party makes a commitment to infuse hope in them. The draft manifesto also does not have any of the big-ticket promises of the 2004 manifesto that talked about rural employment guarantee schemes and the Right to Information Act. Congress leaders, however, claim that the final manifesto will have some big programmes and schemes, including some for the youth. The draft manifesto,as it is,promises to set up a tribal battalion though apparently to woo the Scheduled Tribes,a large section of which has switched loyalties to the BJP in recent times.
