The Rural Development Ministry under Congress leader C P Joshi has decided to print a separate annual calendar for West Bengal. Reason: One of the junior ministers,Sisir Adhikari of Mamata Banerjees Trinamool Congress, has protested that his picture is missing from the Ministrys annual calendar.
The Ministry calendar released recently has pictures of Joshi and two other Ministers of State,Pradeep Jain Congress and Agatha Sangma NCP,but Adhikari does not figure anywhere.
Adhikari was learnt to have complained. Under pressure,Joshi was said to have directed that a separate calendar for West Bengal be printed with pictures of the senior TMC leader.
There would have been no problem if none of three MoSs figured in the calendar. But when two of them figure, excluding just Sisir Adhikari sends a wrong message, said a leader close to Adhikari.
A senior Ministry official said the mistake was unintentional. He said orders have gone out to print a a separate calendar for West Bengal with pictures of the Minister.
When contacted,Adhikari said: I did not lodge any protest. Some of my officials noticed it and took up the matter.
Incidentally, the absence of Adhikaris picture from the calendar was said to have been noticed by an official in Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjees office. It was this official who brought it to the notice of the TMC leader.
Joshis picture appears at two places in the calendar in the months of January and September. On the January page,he figures with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi while on the September page,he is seen with his two deputies Pradeep Jain and Agatha Sangma at the Nirmal Gram awards function.
Sources close to Adhikari said he was also not happy with the work he had been allocated by Joshi and he had already brought it to the notice if his party chief Mamata Banerjee. Adhikari has been given charge of Land Resources but sources said this was inconsequential given his seniority.
