BSP chief Mayawati cautioned central government against violation of federal structure of governance under proposed Communal Violence Bill.

BSP chief Mayawati Thursday cautioned the central government against violation of the federal structure of governance under the proposed Communal Violence Bill and suggested the need for consultation with chief ministers and leaders of political parties to evolve a consensus over the proposed legislation.

Central government must ensure that it the Bill does not violate the federal structure of country. Additionally, the central government must hold consultation with all the state chief ministers and leaders of political parties to evolve a consensus, the former UP chief minister said.

The Samajwadi Party, which rules UP,avoided wading into the controversy in the wake of strong opposition to the Bill by Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. Lok Sabha winter session is on. It would not be appropriate for me to comment on the Bill. Our party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav will take a call on the final shape of the Bill which is acceptable, UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said.
