A six-year-old tribal girl was allegedly raped and murdered by her uncle in Umaria village about 35 km from Shahdol,the district headquarters.
Her body was found on Friday and the police arrested her 25-year-old uncle Rammanoj.
The girls sister and villagers had seen her follow Rammanoj Thursday afternoon. The girl had told her sister that she was going to a nearby forest to pluck mahuva flowers. When she did not return home,her parents searched for her before a local politician approached the Gohparu police station.
Investigating Officer K P Tripathi said the girls head had been smashed by the killer with a stone. He said there were visible signs of rape.
Meanwhile,the nine-year-old rape victim who was shifted to a Nagpur hospital from Jabalpur Friday for better treatment,was stated to be suffering from kidney infection. A doctor at the Care Hospital in Nagpur said,She is in a semi-conscious state and is suffering from kidney infection.
The girl was shifted from Jabalpur where she was hospitalised for seven days after the rape came to light on April 24.
