In a welcome development in the Left wing extremism-affected areas of West Midnapore,Bankura and Purulia, the Peoples Committee Against Police Atrocities PCAPA on Friday accepted an offer of talks by Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee who addressed a rally at Jhargram, but set a condition that the talks would take place only if Banerjees estranged MP Kabir Suman was made the mediator.

After declaring a crusade against the CPI Maoist a few days back,Banerjee on Friday made a U-turn and made all possible efforts to woo the ultras by inviting them for talks on the development issue. She offered to mediate between the Centre and Maoists. She also appealed to them to keep away from the Marxists in West Bengal.

Mamata served a seven-day ultimatum on the Maoists to consider her development proposals for the entire Jangalmahal area, failing which she would be forced to hold rallies and meetings in the Maoist-infested Lalgarh.

Though there has been no reaction from Maoists,PCAPA has agreed to talk but only if Suman,Trinamool MP from Jadavpur,is the mediator.

We welcome the call by Mamata. But we want to talk to Trinamool MP Kabir Suman only. We believe him and think that he is above politics, said PCAPA Dhanapati leader. PCAPA held a parallel rally in Banstolla near Jhargram on Friday which was attended by around 15,000 villagers.

I am telling you with folded hands to shun the path of violence and killings. I am ready to touch your feet for that. Give up arms and ammunitions and talk about development. What do you want? If you want development of Jangalmahal, expansion of railway projects in this area, creation of job opportunity, setting up of schools and hospitals, you are free to hold talks, Mamata said.

She said she was not there for confrontation, nor to aggravate the tension.
