Maharashtra per capita Plan spend lowest

Maharashtra reported lowest per capita Plan expenditure on rural development,agriculture.

The state of Maharashtra had the debatable distinction of the lowest per capita Plan expenditure on rural development and agriculture in the country in the 2010-11 financial year,Minister of State for Planning Ashwani Kumar informed the Lok Sabha today.

The state8217;s per capita outlay on rural development in the 2010-11 annual plan was Rs 33,while for agriculture,it was Rs 65 per head,Kumar said in a written reply.

The other states where spending on agriculture was low were West Bengal 8212; at Rs 101 8212; and Punjab,at Rs 115 per person in 2010-11.

In the case of rural development,the states that earmarked the lowest per capita Plan outlay in the current fiscal were Orissa 8212; at Rs 64 per head 8212; and Kerala,at Rs 92.

In sharp contrast,Mizoram had a Rs 2,296 per capita outlay for agriculture,topping the list of 28 states,followed by Arunachal Pradesh Rs 902 and Meghalaya Rs 811.

Kumar further informed that Sikkim was ahead of the rest of the country in terms of per capita outlay on rural development,at Rs 1,309 per person,followed by Arunachal Pradesh Rs 633 and Mizoram Rs 492.
