Director Rohit Shetty creates history as the first director ever to have a successful film series. No wonder,he has plans for the fourth part.

Rohit Shettys phone is persistently busy. It is days before the director finally comes on the line as he is busy promoting his film even after its release. However,it is not surprising, because with the success of Golmaal 3,the Golmaal series has become a brand name. And whats amazing is that its his fourth hit Golmaal /2006,Golmaal Returns/2008,All The Best/2009 and Golmaal 3 /2010 in a row. Rohit Shetty has created history.

I am in a state of shock. I dont know how to react when people come to me with accolades. The credit of the success of Golmaal 3 G3 definitely belongs to the entire team and the audiences belief in me, says an highly-elated Rohit, who, after watching the rushes, knew that the third part would also be accepted .

On the ninth day of the release of G3, the film had netted Rs 70 crore and the distributors have put up their hands in awe saying We dont know when the collections are going to stop, laughs the proud director.

In India, there has never been a third part of any film and when Rohit decided to make one,he knew there were a lot of expectations from him. But I was not in any kind of pressure though I had warned my team about the hard work and challenge that we would have to face. The Golmaal series had become a cult because of the audience and there was no way they could be taken for granted. I had to be careful that there were no flaws and this gave me a lot of stress. It was hard on my team as well, asserts the young director, who stayed away from his family and friends in Goa for three months working on his ambitious project.

Rohit attributes the success of the film to the story which has been different each time and believes in working in tandem with the writing team. He says that G3 was a very difficult film to write because since the audience was familiar with the brand, the actors and the genre, the third part had to be different and yet in the same mould. It took us six months to write G3, he says adding that the hilarious dialogues have been penned by the duo Farhad-Sajid.

A stickler for perfection,Rohit also has a team that considers him the master and is completely clued into what he wants from them. He also believes in working with the same set of people,be it stars or technicians, thus giving the feel of a family gathering on his sets. Except for new entrant Kunal Khemu, the rest of the cast comprising Ajay Devgn,Kareena Kapoor,Arshad Warsi,Shreyas Talpade,Johny Lever,Ashwini Kalsekar,Murli Sharma,Vrijesh Hirjee and Sanjay Misra was repeated. Two days into work and Kunal had jelled completely with the entire team. The others have already proved their potential, says Rohit who, instead of Paresh Rawal, was working with Mithun Chakraborty and Ratna Pathak Shah for the first time. Paresh would not have fitted into the I am a disco dancer song. So I opted for Mithun, who was,in fact,multi-tasking as an old and a young guy. I wanted someone fresh for the role of Guddi and Ratna had never done a character like this. Both add to the fun element as the film revolves around them. Talented seniors like them help add flavour to a film, says the director, who is already on to his next project. The untitled film with Ajay Devgn in the lead is a remake of the Tamil movie Singam and will take off in February. Rohit would be back to a hardcore comedy again with Ajay and another hero in June.

Right now,Rohit plans to celebrate the success of G3 by sleeping peacefully. Let the producers decide. Meanwhile Ajay is in London shooting so any kind of celebration will happen only after he returns, smiles the director, who when asked about the formula for success, bursts out laughing. I guess, for that you have to be a little mad like me. By the way,Golmaal 4 will take off in 2012, he signs off.
