LJP MP slams budget, praises NDA regime

LJP MP Sabir Ali,who stood up to support the General Budget, not only ended up criticising the UPA government.

LJP MP Sabir Ali,who stood up to support the General Budget,on Friday not only ended up criticising the UPA government but also praised the BJP-led NDA regime from which his party chief Ram Vilas Paswan had walked out after the Gujarat riots.

Participating in the discussion on the Budget,Ali said although he had intended to support the Budget,he felt it was like a cosmetic surgery. He said the budget, although packaged well, was disappointing in its content.

He went on to say that the NDA regime had set a standard. Interestingly, the BJP and LJP fought against each other in Bihar, from where Ali belongs.

I am not a supporter of the NDA. But during the NDA regime,I have no hesitation in admitting that the country did shine although I am not sure the NDA shone or not. There is no doubt about it, he said and emphasised that the NDA regime had set a standard.

He went on to criticise UPAs flagship rural job guarantee scheme MGNREGS claiming corruption in its implementation had resulted in conversion of white money into black money. He demanded that the scheme be scrapped and other ways of generating employment should be considered. NREGS was launched by UPA-I in which Paswan was a minister.

Ali also criticised the government for not ratifying a UN convention against corruption, echoing the BJPs line of attack against the UPA on the issue of corruption.
